SEDAP X READING ROOM. ONE NIGHT ONLY
We have a deep appreciation for Malaysian food and we are very excited to share that Marc from Sedap will be joining us for a one-off supper club on Wednesday 1st April.
Sedap means delicious in Malay! We are in for a treat.
From Marc in his own words:
Growing up in Bognor Regis I would wake up to the rhythmic sound of a pestle and mortar on a weekend. My mum, who is Malaysian, would already be in the kitchen, pounding ingredients for a dinner party. The smell of lemongrass, coconut milk, and even belacan - fermented shrimp - would drift through the house. It was impossible to stay in bed.
As soon as I walked into the kitchen, she’d give me a job to do.
“Marcy boi, stir the pot.”
“Open this.”
“Taste the food, does it need salt?”
That’s how I learnt to cook, just by watching and helping her.
Mealtimes were some of the fondest memories it was what brought us all together. Whether it was watching a friend sweat profusely over something spicy, or laughing at my stepdad swaying at the dinner table in pure enjoyment, there was always noise, warmth and connection. Dinner was never just a meal. It was an event for us.
The menu for the supper club on the 1st of April is inspired by my mother’s cooking. In Malaysian cuisine, it’s common to share rice with a variety of different toppings - or lauk - each one bringing its own flavour, texture and story. We hope this meal brings you a little of that feeling of home, of togetherness, and of course…something delicious.
Selamat makan enjoy!
